Mina Hibdon

Mina Hibdon (June 18, 1926 - May 21, 2010) was the first woman elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives from District 44. Elected at the age of 47 in a special election in 1973, Hibdon served until 1976. Not only was she the first female to be elected in District 44, she was also the first republican to win the seat. A longtime humanitarian and active community volunteer, Hibdon volunteered for the Salvation Army for many years. Along with her husband, James Hibdon, Mina died on May 21, 2010, in Norman, OK.
==Early life==
Hibdon was born in southeastern Oklahoma in McAlester on a farm to Joseph Gilreath and Cora Belle Bryant. Her grandfather, Samuel Bryant, a medical physician, and her grandmother Mary Ann, a nurse, both participated in Hibdon’s birth. Mina was the youngest and last of eight children.
Mina graduated from McAlester High School. During her senior year, Hibdon wrote biographies on each senior for the (McAlester News Capital ).
